Minaya brings up Bay in front of Sox fans

A couple of interesting things from Omar Minaya at today’s roundtable discussion at Fenway Park:

He tried to avoid it, but in the end he couldn’t help but mention Jason Bay in front of the fan base from which he’d just plucked their left fielder: “I didn’t even want to bring it up. I just brought it up in the situation. It’s about getting good players. Jason Bay did a great job here and we’re just fortunate to be able to have him.

While Theo Epstein sidestepped a question asking how the Red Sox stacked up against the Yankees, Minaya was blunt: “You have to respect the Phillies. The Phillies are world champions. They won the National League twice. We just have to go out there and win games and hopefully we win more games than them. But they are the champions and you have to respect that.”

And, on a totally unrelated note, I love this tweet from Jerry Crasnick: “In 1947, the Yankees signed Whitey Ford for $7,000. Kate Gosselin just spent $7,000 on her new hairdo.”
